Introduction

This article covers the installation of the Hybrid Connection Manager (HCM). The HCM is required to connect the Blue Sky Power BI Template apps to your data source.

Install HCM

For performance purposes it is strongly recommended you do not install the Gateway directly on the same server as the SQL database. Run the file as administrator. You will be prompted to accept the Licence Agreement as shown below. Select Accept then Install

When the installation has completed, you will be presented with the window below. Click the Finish button:

 

Configure HCM

This tool runs on Windows Server 2012 and later. The HCM runs as a service and connects outbound to Azure Relay on port 443.

After installing HCM, you can run HybridConnectionManagerUi.exe to use the UI for the tool. This file is located in the Hybrid Connection Manager installation directory. On Windows 10, you can also search for Hybrid Connection Manager UI in your search box. The HCM window should appear as below.

Select the "Enter Manually" button on the bottom right.

At this point you will need to enter the connection string provided by Blue Sky as shown below:
